HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Saturday, January 27, 2024)-- Salve Regina women's ice hockey achieved their second win in two days over the Nichols College Bison with a 2-0 shutout.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 2, Nichols 0
Records: Salve Regina (10-7-3, 7-5-1 CCC), Nichols (7-12-0, 1-12-0 CCC)
All-Time Series: After Thursday's 4-2 win and tonight's result the Seahawks are 24-9-3 against the Bison since the 2008-09 season.

BREAKDOWN:

Emma Gotthelf and Gina Richard were the two athletes to score for Salve Regina. In the first instance, Samantha McKenzie made the first attempt from just in front of the net on the left side and it bounced off the pads of Nichols' McKenzie Muir. Emma Gotthelf rebounded it just in front of the net and poked it in (from Samantha McKenzie and Maddie Cox) for a 1-0 game 11:45 into the first period. Just a few minutes later the Bison sent a skater to the penalty box for body checking. In a five on four power play, the teams faced off in the Seahawk attack zone. Salve Regina took several passes between their wingers and eventually Gina Richard got possession and made a slap shot from the left side faceoff circle, sending the puck above the head of Muir (from Emma Pereira and Riley Esposito). All of the scoring took place in the first period. Even though Salve Regina took 18 shots on goal and Nichols fired off 20 shots, neither team recorded any additional scoring actions.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Nichols outshot Salve Regina 28-24.
  • Salve Regina served seven minutes on two infractions and Nichols spent 12 minutes in the penalty box after committing six infractions.
  • Sydney Baxter is credited with her fourth win of the season.
