BIDDEFORD, Maine.-- The Salve Regina Seahawks fell 1-0 in overtime to the University of New England Nor'easters in CCC action on Friday night.

With tonight's result New England moves up to 3-1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference and Salve Regina falls to 2-1.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 0, New England 1
Records: Salve Regina (4-1-0,2-1-0), New England (4-2-1,3-1-1)
All-Time Series: Salve Regina enterd the night with a 6-11 record against the Nor'easters. Tonight's loss moves the Seahawks to 6-12 all-time. The last meetup was a 2-1 win in February 2023.

BREAKDOWN:

  • Period I: Right from the beginning both teams were in for a close game, requiring endurance and agility on the ice. The Seahawks had an early power play opportunity when Anna O'Neill of the Nor'easters was sent to the penalty box for hooking. Shortly after, the Seahawks were called for tripping, yet neither team could make anything from being a skater up on the ice.
  • Period II: The Seahawks took ten shots on goal and the Nor'easters took seven shots on goal in the middle 20 minutes of the contest, but nothing was decided going into the last intermission in regulation. The only penalty was a two-minute infraction on New England for hooking, with no scoring changes proceeding the call.
  • Period III: Following a faceoff won by New England the Seahawks were called for delaying the game. It looked like the skater-up opportunity could give the Nor'easters the fuel they needed to score, yet the Seahawks held them off with enough time for the penalty to run out. To no avail, each team tried to make something happen in their favor, Salve Regina with eight shots and New England with seven. The clock slowly ticked down and with a 0-0 score overtime was a definite.
  • OT: Lainie Lemieux of New England used a four on three power play opportunity to score the only goal of the evening 4:06 into overtime, ending the game in favor of the Nor'easters.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The teams were tightly matched, Salve Regina with 25 shots on goal and New England with 26 shots on goal.
  • The Seahawks served 7:32 on four infractions and the Nor'easters spent 3:35 in the penalty box on two calls.
  • Sydney Baxter protected the net for the Seahawks as the team's only goalie of the evening. Baxter spent 63:58 in the game.
  • Delanie Corcoran remained in the Nor'easters' net for 64:06 over the course of the game.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Nor'easters and Seahawks will, once again, duel tomorrow night. The game begins at 7 p.m. at St. George's in Middletown, Rhode Island.
