Four Seahawks score in 4-1 victory over Johnson & Wales

MIDDLETOWN, R.I.-- Salve Regina women's ice hockey opened up the regular season with a 4-1 win over the Johnson & Wales Wildcats at St. Georges School Saturday night. 

Women's Ice hockey got right to business at 2:38 into the first period when Gina Richard scored off assists from Samantha McKenzie and Morgan Peritz. Jillian Egan decided to follow suit and score with just over ten minutes left to go in the first period. Egan was assisted by Taylor Stirling and Grace Dumond

The only Seahawk scoring of the second period came from Ashtyn Bringardner with five minutes remaining. Emma Pereira and Emma Gotthelf are credited with the assists. However, the Wildcats slowed the Seahawks momentum and got themselves on the board with 30 seconds left in the second period. It was Paige Henault of the Wildcats who scored from the stick of Allyson Barry. 

Jennifer Rickard brought Salve Regina to the final 4-1 score after she sank an empty net goal with just 52 seconds left to go in the game.

All-Time Series: The Seahawks are 6-2 against Johnson & Wales. Their last game, during the regular season, was a 3-2 win in 2020.

  • The Seahawks took 33 shots on goal during the game and the Wildcats had 18.
  • Salve Regina went on the power play nine times over the course of the day. 
  • Goalie Ellee Kopecky is credited with a win, played for 59:48 and made 17 saves.
