Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Visiting University of New England swept the season series from the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team with a 3-2 victory in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) play.

Series and Streaks
The Nor'easters lead 7-5-1 all-time and have won four in a row.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. UNE senior Marykate Drinkwater (Franklin, Mass.) handed out an assist and scored the game-winning goal late in the second period.
  2. Salve Regina senior Amanda Fantasia (Billerica, Mass.) had a hand in each Seahawk goal, assist on the first, then scoring her team-leading seventh of the season late in the third period.
  3. UNE junior Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) made 25 saves to improve to 13-5-2 in net for the Nor'easters.

Turning Point
Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) scored for UNE at 9:30 of the second to break a 1-1 tie, then Drinkwater scored for with 50 seconds remaining in the second period to jump ahead 3-1. Fantasia lit the lamp for the Seahawks with 4:46 remaining in the third period, but the Seahawks could not find the equalizer even with the goaltender pulled for the final 1:45 of the contest.

Quick Hits

  • Madison Jalbert (Beverly, Mass.) made 27 saves to fall to 4-16 between the pipes.
  • Neither team could capitalize on the power play. The Seahawks went 0-for-4 while holding the Nor'easters to 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
  • The Nor'easters held a 30-27 edge in shots.
  • Carolyn Curley (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored her first career goal to open the scoring for UNE, 3:40 into the first period. Caroline Prezioso (Trumbull, Conn.) answered at 11:37 for the Seahawks to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
