MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior Ciara Petry (Poolesville, Md.) scored a shorthanded goal with less than 10 minutes to play in the second period to help Saint Anslem to a 4-2 victory over Salve Regina's women's ice hockey team on senior night.

Petry's unassisted goal while the Hawks were down a skater at the 10:39 marked proved to be the game winner and put the Hawks up 3-0. Sophomore Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.) cut Saint Anselm's lead to 3-1 with her seventh goal of the season 3:38 into the final period. Sophomore Michaela Chiuccariello (Winchester, Mass.) set up the power play goal with a pass to bring Markey in front of the net.

Sophomore Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) scored the Hawks final goal with 5:20 left in the game to put the visitors on top. 4-1.

After the Seahawks called a timeout and pulled their goalie, the Seahawks defense kicked into high gear and was able to hold off the Hawks from scoring on their empty net.

While the Seahawks had a 6-3 advantage in skaters, Markey scored the game's final goal off a pass from sophomore Taylor Shepherd (Quincy, Mass.) with 21 seconds left in the game to bring the score to its final, 4-2.

Senior Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.) found the back of the net quickly into the game to put the Hawks on top, 1-0. Just 18 seconds after the opening faceoff senior Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and freshman Sarah Geisinger (Willoughby, Ohio) set Picarello's 12 goal of the year.

Salve Regina's senior goalie, Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) was able to stave off the Hawk's attack for the rest of the period, making nine of her 26 saves in the opening frame.

Herron scored her first goal of the game 3:26 into the second period off an assist from junior Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) and Picarello to give Saint Anslem a 2-0 lead.

Junior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) made 27 saves, nine in each period, for her seventh win of the season.

Salve Regina returns to the ice when the Seahawks travel to Purchase, N.Y. to kick off a four-game road stand against Manhattanville on Feb. 8 at 3 pm.
