ASTON, Pa. – The Salve Regina women's ice hockey team held off a late third period comeback from the Neumann Knights to skate to a 3-2 win, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.

In their first game since December 8, the Seahawks made an early statement, taking a 2-0 lead over the Knights in the first period. Sophomore Taylor Shepherd (Quincy, Mass./Boston Junior Terriers) took advantage of the Seahawks' first power play opportunity of the game with her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Shepherd scored just 4:28 into the period on an assist from sophomore Michaela Chiuccariello (Winchester, Mass./Charles River) and sophomore Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass./Charles River).

On their very next power play, freshman Molly O'Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass./Connecticut Northern Lights) gave the Seahawks a 2-0 advantage with her first goal of the season off a pass from senior Melanie Sherlock (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs).

The Seahawks took a 3-0 lead with their only even strength goal of the game as freshman Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass./East Coast Wizards) scored 6:47 into the second period off a pass from senior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass./Massachusetts Spitfires).

With just 10 seconds to go in the second period, the Knights cut the Salve lead to 3-1 as junior Dru Austin (Goderich, Ontario/Susquehanna Rapids) took a pass from junior Ang Gilmour (Simcoe, Ontario/Hamilton Jr. Hawks). The Knights pulled to within one on a goal from freshman Danica Delry (Hamilton Ontario/Hamilton Hawks MAA) with 9:14 to go in the game, but the Seahawks held off one final power play from the Knights to pick up their eighth win of the season.
