Seahawks fall to Plattsburgh, 6-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team started their season on a high note with a 6-0 win over Salve Regina at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals improve to 1-0-0, while the Seahawks fall to 0-2-0.

 

Chelsea VanGlahn scored her first collegiate goal and the game-winner at 18:21 of the first to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

 

The Cardinals never looked back, receiving goals from Kate Fairfield, Kara Buehler and Jordan Caldwell in the second period, stretching the lead to 4-0.

 

Kayla Colang and Teal Gove tallied the fifth and sixth goals of the afternoon. Steph Moon and Justine Fisher each recorded two assists in the Cardinal victory.

 

Plattsburgh held the advantage in shots, 47-10. Salve Regina went 0 for 4 on the power play. The Cardinals went 1 for 9 on the power play.

 

Mandy Mackrell picked up the win for Plattsburgh, making 10 saves in the shutout. Rebecca Simmons (Averill Park, N.Y.) took the loss for the Seahawks, making 38 stops in 56 minutes of play. Alyssa Corvi (Barrington, R.I.) took over the Salve Regina net for the final three minutes, making three saves.
