NEW LONDON, Conn. (Wednesday, February 14, 2024) -- The United States Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team hosted Salve Regina University in their final regular season home game, taking down the Seahawks with a final score of 93-72.

The Bears had a slow start, not getting on the board until two and a half minutes into the first with a jumper by Kira Wood. The first half of the game were a back and forth battle with six lead changes that ended with the Bears on top. Once CGA took the lead in the second quarter, they never gave it up for the rest of the game.

Heading into halftime, the Bears were holding a seven point lead with a score of 38-31.

Briana Neary (Wayne, N.J.) led all players with 25 points on 11-of-17 from the floor including all three free throws. Wood led the Bears with 22 points, followed by Glory Blethen with 20 and Dorothy Stotts with 13. Kelly Hagerty led all players with 12 rebounds. Wood and Taylor Lynch each grabbed three steals with Stotts leading in assists with nine.

All-Time Series: This is the 22nd meeting between the Bears and Seahawks in women's basketball and first since 2019. Coast Guard has won the last three meetings including a 75-49 decision the last time they met Salve Regina at Roland Hall (Nov. 17, 2017). The series began in 1982 but tonight is the first meeting as fellow NEWMAC members. Morgan Shuey and assistant coach Megan Henaghan played in the last meeting against Coast on Nov. 16, 2019 (Bears won, 69-48). Salve Regina leads the series, 12-10.
