Seahawks reach 100 for second time in program history

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Saturday, November 18, 2023) -- Salve Regina University women's basketball played Keystone College for the first time ever in the consolation of the Hampton Inn Holiday Classic hosted by Western New England University. For only the second time in program history, the Seahawks scored triple digits while defeating the Giants, 100-56.

Keystone drops to 1-2 while Salve Regina improves to 2-3.

Salve Regina had four players with double digit points as Ashley Rourke and Sofia Neary both fell two rebounds short of a double-double. Rourke scored 21 points with eight rebounds while Neary tallied 20 points and eight boards.

The Seahawks were up 47-30 at halftime and used a 30-point third quarter to pull away with the victory. Salve Regina shot 52 percent from the field and Keystone was 28 percent.

NOTEWORTHY

  • First time this century the Seahawks have reached the century mark. Only other time Salve Regina has scored in triple digits came on Feb. 9, 1998, when the Seahawks bested Nichols College, 105-52, at Rogers High School.
  • All 14 Seahawks played and all had a positive +/- in the box score.
  • Salve Regina had a 31-point output from its bench.
  • Morgan Shuey dished out 11 assists today and 20 in the two-game tournament.
  • Ashley Rourke scored 21 points with eight rebounds while Sofia Neary tallied 20 points and eight boards.
  • Briana Neary (13) and Amanda Folan (11) also posted double-digit points for the Seahawks.
  • Ashley Rourke was named to the all-tournament team.
