BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University women's basketball team collected its fifth straight victory Tuesday evening with a 50-39 win over Salve Regina University, ending the Seahawks' win streak at four games.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Seniors Kerri Beland and Liv Pierce are serving as captains for head coach Cori Hughes in her 12th season.
  • Beland enters Saturday's game with 960 career points.
  • Torie Scorpio is next on the active scoring list with 837 points.
  • In its last game, Salve Regina had only 10 points in the first 20 minutes (five points in each of the first two quarters).
  • The Seahawks were 1-for-1 from the free-throw line while the Hawks made 20-of-32 attempts from the charity stripe (62.5%) in the 50-39 win.
  • The next fewest free-throw attempts in a game for Salve Regina was its season-opener at Suffolk (0-for-4).
  • Salve Regina outscored Roger Williams by eight in the third quarter (14-6).
  • In their first meeting with the Bison this season, the Seahawks "won" the second (13-9), third (12-10), and fourth (19-18) quarters, but lost the first by eight (14-6).
  • Salve Regina outrebounded its opponents in each game of its recent four-game win streak (Jan. 10-19); grabbing 41 or more and keeping the opposing team to fewer than 40 in each.
  • Seahawks are 3-1 at the Rodgers Recreation Center in 2018-19.
  • Double-figure scorers for the Seahawks include Scorpio (12.6 ppg), Beland (12.5), and Mary Rorke (10.2).
  • Tara Burke and Lauryn Becker both rank in the top five in field goal percentage in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, 44.2% (3rd) and 42.9% (5th), respectively.
  • Salve Regina is 3-2 in games decided by three points or fewer this season; the three wins came during the four-game win streak, including back-to-back one-point triumphs on the road (51-50 at Western New England, 62-61 at Endicott).

BISON BITS

  • Four Bison have played in each game for Nichols (19) this season - Mekaela Fithian-Giantonio, Ciarri Formby-Lavertu, Shannon St. Lawrence, Tove Selberg - the latter with just three starts.
  • Fithian-Giantonio and Formby-Lavertu have both scored 125 points in 19 games.
  • Nichols has lost 13 straight since defeating Salve Regina on Nov. 28 in Dudley.
  • On Tuesday in Beverly, Mass., the Bison fell by 31 (77-46) to the Gulls of Endicott College.
  • Rebecca Cleary scored a team-high 14 points off the bench for Nichols, and also led the Bison with 11 rebounds for a double-double.
  • The Bison committed 23 turnovers in the loss to the Gulls.
  • Nichols traveled to Tacoma, Wash., for a pair of games in December (Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran).
  • The closest contest for the Bison since their back-to-back wins in November was a three-point overtime loss at Gordon on Jan. 5 (64-61).

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 38-10, but Nichols won the last meeting (51-50 on Nov. 28 in Dudley) to snap a 17-game losing skid against the Seahawks. Current Bison head coach MaryLynn Skarzenski, who swept the league's major awards her senior season as a senior, led Nichols to its last triumph in the Rodgers Recreation Center on January 21, 2009. Nichols' only CCC victory this season thus far came against Salve Regina.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Salve Regina (9-10, 5-5 CCC) continues its four-game homestand when it hosts Endicott College on Wed., January 30 (5:30 p.m.). Nichols (3-16, 1-9 CCC) returns to Dudley for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with Western New England University on Wednesday.
