Bucci, Pendergast, Windwer named captains for 2013-14

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's basketball coach Cori Hughes has announced three seniors as her team captains for 2013-14: Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.), Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.), and Taylor Windwer (Milton, Mass.).

"All three of our senior captains are really positive, unselfish, and lead by example," says Hughes, in her seventh year. "But they are also really different personalities, and each fulfill an important role as a leader on this team."

"Lisa is – simply put – energy. She just never stops, and really lifts the team, especially when we need it most. She makes sure that when we are down, we never stay down."

"Marissa is confidence personified. She a perennial all-conference selection, and is all action. She has experienced success, personal and team, and she won't settle for anything less. And she won't let her teammates settle, either.

"Taylor keeps this machine running. She makes sure everyone – including herself – is doing all that needs to be done, on and off the court, to ensure our success.  Her selfless, team-first attitude is exactly the kind of model this team needs to strive for if we hope to achieve our goals."

Under Hughes' direction, Salve Regina has won three Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships in six years while compiling a won-loss record of 111-56 (.665). The Seahawks have reached the conference finals all three seasons with Bucci, Pendergast, and Windwer.

Salve Regina opens its 2013-14 season against University of Southern Maine in the University of Maine at Farmington tip-off tournament on Friday, November 15. The Seahawks will not play at home until January 2, 2014, when they host UMass Boston (6 p.m.).
