Salve Regina downed by Mass. College of Liberal Arts, 73-65

North Adams, Mass.- The MCLA Women's basketball team improved to 5-1 as they rallied from a two point halftime deficit to beat visiting Salve Regina 73-65.

Four different Trailblazers scored in double figures in the win. Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, N.Y.) had 19 points and 16 boards to lead MCLA.

Salve Regina started strong and opened up a six point lead in the first half behind junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) as she torched the Trailblazer defense for 16 points.

MCLA responded with a strong second half as they committed to the low post. Wehner notched eleven points in the half as the Trailblazers opened up an eight point lead. Salve Regina eventually cut the deficit to four behind a Phillips basket, however some key free throws down the stretch provided the final margin.

Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had another solid outing as she finished with 13 points and four steals. Junior Molly Broda connected on four three pointers en route to her 15 points. Senior Laura Silverman (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished a rebound shy of a double double as she had 11 points and nine boards.

Phillips ended her day with 26 points, while Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, Mass.) added 20 points and seven boards.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday night when they host Albany College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m.; Salve Regina (4-2) plays at Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
