Phillips, Horan lead Seahawks past Pride, 68-56

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College (7-7, 1-1 TCCC) fell Tuesday evening to The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina (7-6, 2-0 TCCC) 68-56. Salve Regina junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) finished with a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds.

 

Phillips had 14 defensive rebounds for the game. Two other Seahawks tallied double figures. Sophomore Lindsey Shorey (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore Kimberly Horan (Webster, Mass.) chimed in with 21 and 16 points, respectively.

 

Shorey shot an impressive 8-of-11 (.727) from the field, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Horan contributed largely from the behind the three-point arc, knocking down three of her four attempts.

 

Regis shot a lowly 24 percent (9-of-37) from the floor in the first half. Freshman Bianca Flores (Dorchester, Mass.) had a team-high 11 points at intermission, and finished with 13 points.

 

Salve Regina was 23-of-58 from the field, and made four of its nine three point attempts. In comparison, Regis College shot 21-of-73. Regis shot 28 percent from the field and 18.5 percent from behind the three-point line.

 

Regis committed 22 personal fouls to Salve Regina's 13. The Seahawks would make 58 percent of its attempts. Regis, having made it to the free throw line only 13 times on the night, made nine of its attempts.

 

Salve Regina will travel to the University of New England Jan. 16. Regis College will take on Curry College on the same day at 1:00 p.m.
