Phillips Honored by TCCC For second time in 2009-10

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

 

Phillips filled up the stat sheet in a pair of Seahawk conference victories last week, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.0 blocked shots and 3.5 steals per game. She opened the week with a 19-point, 14-rebound, four-assist, two-block effort in Salve Regina's 65-52 win at Wentworth. Phillips followed with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots and seven steals in just 25 minutes of action in a 62-48 win over New England College on Saturday.

 

Overall, Phillips committed just five turnovers in two games and shot 47 percent from the floor (14-of-30) and a sizzling 90 percent from the line (9-of-10). She leads both the team and TCCC in scoring at 18.3 ppg, and her 7.8 rebounds per game and 3.2 steals per game both rank first on the team and second and third in the conference, respectively.

 

Phillips' selection marks the second time this season she has earned Player of the Week honors. The last time she was TCCC Player of the Week (January 11), she went on the earn Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honors as well.

 

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host in-state rival Roger Williams University at 6 p.m.
