PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Tuesday, April 16, 2024) – The Salve Regina University softball team wins seven of its last eight after sweeping Johnson & Wales University, 4-2 and 5-2, in non-league action on Tuesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Seahawks 4, Wildcats 2
Junior Sam Franceschi (East Haven, Conn.) doubled in Morganti Bello (Corte Madera, Calif.) in the top of the first before the Wildcats evened the score in the bottom of the frame. After the hosts took a 2-1 lead into the seventh, the Seahawks' comeback took advantage of a Wildcat error as Hailey Basso (Carmel, N.Y.) reached first and gave way to pinch-runner Emma Medeiros (Swansea, Mass.) who tied the score on Bello's double. Kylie Lanteri (Berlin, Conn.) delivered a two-run double to score Bello and Emily Lane (Tinton Falls, N.J.). Caroline Peterson (Halifax, Mass.) finished the complete-game victory (W, 4-3) despite allowing a walk and single in the final frame, with one Wildcat eliminated on a caught stealing.

Game Two: Seahawks 5, Wildcats 2
NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week Alex Kelly (East Meadow, N.Y.) started and tossed four scoreless frames before the Wildcats reached her for a pair of runs on a couple of RBI doubles. In the top of the sixth, Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) cut the deficit in half with her bases loaded single. Senior Maddie Capetta (Raritan, N.J.) came home on a foul out to right field to tie the score. Hailey Basso (Carmel, N.Y.) gave Salve Regina (12-14, 5-5 NEWMAC) its first lead before the sixth inning was over. In the seventh, RBI singles by Olivia Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) and Emily Cronin gave the Seahawks insurance runs as Shea Murphy (Westfield, N.J.) finished the game in the circle (W, 1-0) for the final two and a third innings allowing just one Wildcat baserunner.
