Hawks outlast rain to sweep Seahawks

BRISTOL, R.I. (Wednesday, April 21, 2021) - A five-run fifth inning capped by a Sophia Strazza (Wilton, Conn.) bases-clearing double vaulted Salve Regina University to a 6-2 lead over Roger Williams University in Game One of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball doubleheader. The Hawks answered with two in their fifth, two more in the sixth to tie the score, and a walk-off win, 7-6, in the bottom of the seventh.

Jessica Roberts (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tripled in Christina Braid (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) in the top of the first of Game Two before the hosts erupted for nine runs over their next four frames to claim a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

The Seahawks won the first of four games played this season and hold a 43-41 edge in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Seahawk freshman Christina Braid (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) collected three hits in the opener and another in the nightcap while scoring two times.
  2. Seahawk sophomore Sophia Strazza (Wilton, Conn.) delivered a clutch two-out, two-strike three-run double to cap off a five-run fifth inning in Game One. She added another double in Game Two.
  3. Seahawk freshman Jessica Roberts (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tripled in the first run of the second game to give Salve Regina a brief 1-0 advantage.

  • A lengthy rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning of Game Two provided the Hawks' staff the opportunity to play recorded music with "Sun" or "Sunshine" in the lyrics.
