Seahawks spring into action on March 19

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University softball throws its first pitch on Saturday, March 19, in Clermont, Fla., against Amherst College in the 2016 Dot Richardson Spring Games. The Seahawks begin the season with 10 games in six days against 10 different opponents in Florida during spring break (all Florida games feature live stats and video).

The average win total in 2015 for the first 10 opponents of 2016 exceeds 25, headlined by the three-time defending national champion Jumbos of Tufts University (51-0 in 2015, and carrying a 53-game win streak into 2016). Tufts has a won-loss record of 144-7 (.954) during its three-year championship reign.

In addition to Benedictine University (31-11 in 2015), all but one opponent in Florida finished with a winning record last season. Salve Regina also plays Worcester State University (22-15 in 2015), the last non-NESCAC school to defeat Tufts in regular-season play (March 16, 2014).

The schedule features live stats and video with play-by-play for all home games at Toppa Field at Freebody Park, as well as all 10 games in Florida. With Salve Regina baseball also playing its spring break contests in central Florida, sports information director Ed Habershaw will broadcast 17 of the combined 20 games involving the Seahawk teams. 

Third-year head coach Jessica DePolito (42-39; .519) will also have her team in a matchup with her alma mater (Wheaton College on April 19) where she earned NFCA All-American honors in 2007. Salve Regina opens its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular season schedule on March 30 against Roger Williams University.
