Gallagher, Coblentz pace Seahawks at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sophomore Ty Gallagher (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman Dillon Coblentz (Chouteau, Okla.) led the way for Salve Regina at the Smith College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, finishing just one second apart in the 5K race.

Junior Shane Behn (Makawao, Hawaii), junior captain Patrick Voli (Bloomingdale, N.J.) and senior captain Jake Simpson (Hingham, Mass.) would complete the lineup for the Seahawks.

Voli led the early charge for Salve Regina, pacing a group that included all four of his teammates. The Seahawks worked together as the gravel paths gave way to trails and a challenging series of rolling hills, but Gallagher and Coblentz proved to be the quickest over the undulating terrain.

Walter Wagude of Tufts captured the individual victory, crossing the finish line at 15:47.6 and holding off Tobias L'Esperance-Kerckoff of Trinity (15:51.0) and Sadadine Adam of American International College (15:56.4). The Jumbos placed all five scorers in the top 10 to claim the team title with a score of 30. Trinity (49) was second, while AIC (55) was third.

Salve Regina performances included:

50. Ty Gallagher – 20:00.1

51. Dillon Coblentz – 20:01.2

52. Shane Behn – 20:07.2

54. Patrick Voli – 20:27.1

58. Jake Simpson – 21:29.1

There were 64 runners and six teams in the meet.

Salve Regina returns to action at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday, September 17.
