NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University athletics resumes its summer series with a daily flashback to the top five moments of 2016-17 for each of its 19 varsity sports. Beginning with Memorial Day (Monday, May 29, 2017) and finishing with the final day of August, 95 moments (19 x 5) will be shared to relive the most exciting happenings of the most recent Seahawk season.

Senior captain Jay Brennan (North Haven, Conn.) was recognized as a Commonwealth Coast Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete at the conference championship meet on Oct. 29. Brennan shared the award with Greg Whitney of Eastern Nazarene College after the two tied in balloting among the CCC coaches.

Brennan, a nursing student, was a three-time CCC All-Academic Team honoree. He maintained one of the highest grade point averages on the men's cross country team while pursuing one of the most demanding, academically rigorous majors at Salve Regina University.

"Jay was a most deserving recipient of the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. His work ethic, whether in the classroom or on the course, is second to none," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "There are few people who could have balanced such a challenging course of study with athletics, community service and campus leadership roles, but Jay did it, and he did it very well."

Brennan appeared in 30 meets for Salve Regina between 2013 and 2016, playing a varsity role in 23 of them. His collegiate bests are 18:24 for 5K and 28:41 for 8K. He represented the Seahawks in two ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships and two NCAA Division III Regional Championships.
