SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) recognizes Salve Regina University freshman Billy Martin (West Islip, N.Y.) with its Rookie of the Week honor for men's cross country.

Rookie of the Week - Martin was the first CCC freshman to cross the finish line at the Western New England Invitational.  On the 8K course, Martin placed 28th overall with a time of 28:18 in the field of 190 runners. Martin helped lead Salve Regina to a sixth-place team finish out of 18 teams in the event.

"Each week, this team makes progress. We're so much more competitive than we were a year ago, and that's a credit to the work that our top guys have done this season," said assistant coach Rob McGuinness. "We've asked a lot of our freshmen, and Billy, Tyler, Anthony, Dan and Jay have responded well. This is a group that is only going to get better."

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.
