Hughes bests all DIII runners as men's cross country impresses at Trinity

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished ninth overall, as well as first among all Division III runners, to lead the Seahawks to a ninth place finish at the Trinity Invitational held at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn. on Saturday.

 The Seahawks finished ahead of three other schools, including Manhattanville, Post, and Mitchell.  

Hughes led the way with an outstanding time of of 17:07, averaging a 5:32 mile. Hughes out ran numerous Division I and II athletes, while finishing in front of all other Division III runners.

Freshman Timothy Roosa (Woodbury, Conn.) finished second for the Seahawks with a time of 19:59, while senior Brian Dagliere (North Haven, Conn.) rounded-out the top three, finishing at 20:33. Salve regina also received fine performances from freshman Daniel Labrie (East Providence, R.I.), senior Michael Stankus (Cropseyville, N.Y.), freshman Josh Critchley (Torrington, Conn.), and sophomore Jack Simpson (Lynn, Mass. ) who finished with times of 20:51, 21:08, 22:09, and 22:12, respectively.

Salve Regina will race again this weekend at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational.
