Gulls finish with 8-1 victory

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina men's tennis team hosted Endicott on Thursday afternoon for the final Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game of the regular season. The Gulls swept in doubles play while dropping just one match in singles play as they took the Seahawks 8-1.

Endicott ends the regular season at 8-7 (6-2 CCC) which marks the first time since the 2008-09 season that the men's program only lost two conference games.

Salve Regina (0-11; 0-8 CCC) went winless in conference play for the first time ever but has a chance to end season on winning note with final match on Sunday against non-league opponent Lesley University.

To start up in doubles play in the #2 slot, juniors Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) and Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass.) earned the first victory of the day with their 8-1 decision against Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.). Taking the second match, senior Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) defeated Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.), 8-1. To wrap up doubles play freshmen Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) David Copeland (Longmeadow, Mass.) won 8-2 in the #3 slot against Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Ned Richard (Kennebunk, Maine).

To start up singles play (#2)  Forance took the first victory 6-2, 6-2 while (#1) Ross clinched the match with the fifth victory (6-1, 6-0). Dolph earned an impressive 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the #3 position while (#4) McAndrews (6-4, 6-1) and (#5) junior Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) (6-3, 6-0) also earned a victory for the Blue and Green.

C.J. Maksut (Saco, Maine) posted his team-leading fourth victory of the season in straight sets at sixth singles against Keller Dinan (Monterey, Mass.).
