WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon men's tennis notched its first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win of the 2014 season with a 7-2 triumph over visiting Salve Regina on Monday afternoon. The Fighting Scots received straight-set victories from five of their six singles flights and improved to 5-8 on the year.

Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) combined to stay undefeated in conference play at first doubles. The duo quickly dispatched Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.), 8-1, at the top spot. Hall won his third consecutive singles match without dropping a game, while Gaudio put forth a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nguyen at two.

Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) and Dan Dufoe (Malvern, Pa.) grabbed their first conference doubles win, 8-4, over the Seahawks third duo. Salve Regina rebounded with an 8-6 win at second doubles from its junior pair of Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) to make it a 2-1 match entering singles play.

Hall and Gaudio's quick wins brought the Scots within a point of a victory. Christensen and freshman Daniel Alvarado (Bedford, N.H.) picked up two more wins to clinch a CCC victory for Gordon. Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) fought off Mo Awwa in a first-set tiebreak before cruising in the second set, 6-2.

The Seahawks nabbed their second and final point of the match with a three-set win at fourth singles. Carroll and Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) split the first two sets before Carroll pulled away for a 10-7 win in a third-set tiebreaker.

Gordon plays the second of its three-game homestand on Wednesday against conference powerhouse Nichols. Salve Regina hopes to find its first win at home against Eastern Nazarene on the same day.
