Corsairs pin 9-0 defeat on Seahawks

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team captured their first win of the 2013-2014 season in convincing fashion, sweeping Salve Regina University, 9-0, this afternoon in a non-conference match.

The Corsairs improve their overall season record to 1-3, while the Seahawks fall to 0-5 on the year.

UMass Dartmouth was victorious in all three doubles matches, surrendering only two games throughout play, 8-0, 8-1 and 8-1. Sophomore Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) and junior Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) opened up singles play with straight set wins in the one and two slots. Senior Jon Reagan (Franklin, Mass.) edged out Salve Regina's Matt Carroll in the opening set of No. 3 singles, 7-5, and seized set two by a score of 6-1.

In No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, sophomore Jake Jaskolka (Mattapoisett, Mass.), junior Malcolm Neville (Foxboro, Mass.) and sophomore Tony Xie (Beijing, China) all won in straight sets for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when the Corsairs travel to Southern Maine to open up Little East Conference play with a 1 p.m. match. The Seahawks open up conference play on Saturday when the team travels to Curry for a match at noon.
