NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University head men's tennis coach Cory Tusler announced a senior and sophomore as captains of his 2013-14 squad. Fourth-year player Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and second-year player Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.) were picked to lead the Seahawks' 11-member team on and off the court.

Gunning competed at singles positions No. 1-4 last season. He grabbed a straight-set victory against Rob Knight (Curry College's No. 4) when the Seahawks defeated the Colonels, 5-4, for their only victory in 2013. Gunning's primary doubles partner in 2013 was then-senior Aaron Isch, and they paired for a victory at No. 1 doubles at Endicott.

Gunning and Nguyen paired for one doubles match in 2013. Nguyen earned three singles and three doubles victories in his first season with the Seahawks. His first collegiate singles victory came against Defiance College during a spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., in March 2013. He later had consecutive triumphs against Endicott and Curry at No. 5 singles.

"Colin has the most experience on our club," said Tusler, "and Khoa has already shown leadership qualities that I'd like to see develop alongside Colin. We have a great group of guys eager to play matches and work on their respective games."

The Seahawks host the Pride of Regis College (2-5) in a season-opening match for the home team in Newport on Thursday (3 p.m.).
