Seahawks fall to Corsairs on the road, 8-1

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team got double wins from five players and defeated visiting Salve Regina, 8-1, in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Thursday.

Freshman Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.) earned the lone point of the day for the Seahawks, capturing an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory at No.6 singles.

Junior Guillaume Cotte (Grenoble, France) defeated junior Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) at number one singles, 6-1, 6-2; junior Mike Parker (Scituate, Mass.) downed sophomore Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) at number two singles, 6-2, 6-1; and Cotte and Parker combined to defeat Isch and Gunning at number one doubles, 8-0.

Junior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, Mass.) downed junior Ken MacCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) at number three singles, 6-2, 6-2; freshman Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) defeated sophomore Michael Samek (Kensington, Conn.) at number four, 6-2, 6-1; and Dugas and Lawton downed MacCormack and Samek at number two doubles, 8-1.

Junior Zach Engstrom (Taunton, Mass.) defeated freshman Malcolm Marshall (Topsham, Maine) at number five singles, 6-3, 6-2; and teamed with junior Cody Zygmont (Swansea, Mass.) to down Marshall and Gallerani  at number three doubles, 8-4.

The Corsairs improved to 4-1 with the victory, while the Seahawks dropped to 1-8 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host UMass Boston Saturday. Salve Regina will host Assumption Monday.
