Bears serve up 8-1 victory over Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. - The United States Coast Guard Academy men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches on their way to an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina on Tuesday evening in Newport, R.I. The loss drops the Seahawks to 0-2 to start the year, while the Bears improved to 2-1 overall with the win.
 
Coast Guard junior Blake Maurer (Fort Worth, Texas) and sophomore Chris Hoffman (El Lago, Texas) combined for an 8-3 victory in number one doubles. Sophomore Josh Fischer (Roanoke, Texas) and freshman David Blystone (Prattville, Ala.) paired up for an unblemished 8-0 victory at the number two doubles position, while seniors Matt Faha (Stafford, Va.) and Nick Martin (State College, Pa.) earned an 8-2 victory at number three doubles.
 
Salve Regina junior Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) earned the lone victory for the Seahawks during his thrilling number two singles match. After losing the opening set to Coast Guard's Nick Martin by a score of 6-2, Isch bounced back to take the second set 6-4, before winning the tie breaker 10-8.
Maurer was victorious for the Bears in his number one singles match (6-2, 6-1), while teammates Josh Fischer (6-0, 6-0), Chris Hoffman (6-1, 6-2), David Blystone (6-0, 6-2), and Matt Faha (6-2, 6-0) were victorious from the three, four, five, and six positions respectively.
 
The Bears won't return to action until Wednesday, October 5th when they host Nichols at 4 p.m., while the Seahawks look to bounce back tomorrow when they hit the road for the first time this season to face Babson at 3:30 p.m.
