Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Three different players scored for the Salve Regina University men's soccer team in a 3-1 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks improve to 21-8-8 versus the Colonels and have won three in a row in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina junior Sam Winiarski (Westfield, Mass.) helped bookend the Seahawks scoring, assisting on their first, and scoring their third goal.
  2. Salve Regina senior Nathan Reid (Magnolia, Del.) made seven saves to improve to 6-1-1 in net.
  3. Salve Regina senior Alessandro Oggiano (Stoughton, Mass.) notched his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 27th for the game-winning tally.

Turning Point
Despite trailing the entire game the Colonels were putting pressure on the Seahawks down the stretch trying to make it a one-goal game, outshooting them 9-2 to close. In the 86th however, Winiarski received a pocket pass from Jordan Borges (Milford, Mass.) on the left side of the box which he was able to get his foot on and send to the far post, away from the Colonel keeper's hands and sneak inside the post for a 3-0 Seahawks advantage. Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) scored in the 88th to get the goal back, but it was too little too late for the Colonels as Salve Regina remained unbeaten in CCC play.

Quick Hits

  • Zeke Mendendez (Avon, Conn.) started the scoring for Salve Regina in the 8th off a feed from Winiarski followed by Oggiano who fired a strong shot from the left side off the keeper's hands and in.
  • Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) made four saves in the loss to fall to 3-3-3 in net for the Colonels.
  • Curry held a 16-13 advantage in shots and 8-7 in shots on goal.
  • Salve Regina is unbeaten in their last 17 CCC contests (15-0-2) dating back to 2018.
