NEWPORT, R.I. - For the fourth time in five seasons the Salve Regina University men's soccer team has been announced as recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

In order to qualify for the award, teams are required to record a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. In all, a total of 864 college soccer teams (281 men, 583 women) earned the award during the 2013-14 academic year.

Salve Regina, which features the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Senior Scholar Athlete Award winner in Jake Weinshank (Chapel Hill, N.C.), earned the team award with a 3.01 grade-point average.

"I'm very happy to see our program honored with this national award again," said eighth-year head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "After winning this award in three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012, I think our entire roster was somewhat unhappy to not earn it again in 2013. Plus, it is a major piece of our recruiting in that we can point to the degree of academic excellence that we have been able to maintain these last few years. So I'm elated to see us bounce back and earn this award again for 2014, which now gives us four of these in the last five years. And, of course, having Jake Weinshank and his perennial 4.0 grade point average on the roster doesn't hurt… we will definitely miss him next fall."
