Men's soccer sweeps CCC weekly awards

NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore Jake Weinshank (Chapel Hill, N.C.), freshman Jeffrey L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.), and sophomore Alec Shuman (Pompton Plains, N.J.) swept the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards after helping to lead the Seahawks to the CCC Championship title this past week. Weinshank was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, Shuman was slected as the CCC Defensive Player of the Week, and L'Heureux was honored as the CCC Rookie of the Week.

Weinshank notched the only two goals scored in the CCC Championship finals and totaled three goals in the tournament. He scored the game-winning goal in the 34th minute on a header before giving the Seahawks some breathing room with a second marker with just eight seconds remaining in the opening half. 

Shuman organized a Salve Regina defense which allowed just one goal and 11 shots on net in the entire CCC Championship tournament. In the finals, Shuman helped the Seahawks hold the Bison scoreless, allowing just five shots on goal.

L'Heuruex allowed just one goal over 180 minutes in net this week, compiling a 0.50 goals against average while recording a five-save shutout in the CCC finals versus Nichols. For the tournament, the freshman went 3-0-0 with a 0.33 goals against average while earning a pair of shutouts.

Weinshank, Shuman, and L'Heureux will lead the Seahawks into the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship tournament this Saturday when they travel to face Montclair State (17-2-0) at SUNY Oneonta.
