DeBalsi scores four times, leads Seahawks to 13-10 triumph over Kean

UNION, N.J. (Saturday, March 2, 2024)-- Salve Regina men's lacrosse secured their first win of 2024 with a 13-10 victory over Kean University after trailing 3-0 with 15 minutes down.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 13, Kean 10
Records: Salve Regina (1-2,0-0 NEWMAC), Kane (1-2,0-0 Costal Lacrosse Conference)
Last matchup: On March 25, 2023 Salve Regina fell 16-11 to Kean. 

BREAKDOWN: 

The Cougars scored three unrivaled goals in the first quarter, but the Seahawks were dominant in the second quarter, rebounding with eight consecutive goals. Daniel Naglieri scored first for Salve Regina with 10:51 remaining in the second period. Both Justin DeBalsi and Liam Cooney contributed two goals in quarter two. Going into halftime it was an 8-3 contest in favor of Salve Regina

Keeping the game lively, Kean closed Salve Regina's five-point gap to a two-point lead in the third quarter. Justin DeBalsi and Brendan Treacy were both contributors, setting Salve Regina ahead 10-8 with 15 minutes remaining. However, to clinch the win the Seahawks scored three to the Cougars two goals in the final period making it a 13-10 victory for Salve Regina. Justin DeBalsi netted four goals for the Seahawks while Daniel Naglieri scored three times and Liam Cooney provided two goals across the day. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Salve Regina served six minutes on four infractions and Kean sat out five minutes resulting from three penalties. 
  • Seahawk goalie Andrew Hazard made 12 saves. 
  • Cougars' Nick Paterno stopped 13 Seahawk attempts.

On Wednesday, March 6, men's lacrosse plays Wesleyan University on Citrin Field in Middletown, Connecticut at 4:30 p.m.
