Hawks peck out Seahawks 11-10 in season opener

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Wednesday, February 21, 2024)--Salve Regina men's lacrosse fell 11-10 in overtime to the Roger Williams University Hawks on opening day of the 2024 season. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Last matchup: Salve Regina last saw Roger Williams on April 26, 2023, and it was a 15-10 victory for the Seahawks.

BREAKDOWN: 

The Hawks netted the first three goals of the day, the only scoring in the first period, but the Seahawks were the first to strike in the second period. Stephen McAllister (from Brendan Treacy) got salve on the board for a 3-1 game. Brendan Treacy (from Max Beauchamp) and Daniel Naglieri also scored in the second period, but the Hawks were still up 5-3 going into halftime. 

Roger Williams got the upper hand of Salve Regina in the third period, despite Chris Koltzan (from Brendan Treacy) racking up another goal. It was in the final period that was the difference maker for Salve Regina. Daniel NaglieriChris Koltzan (from Brendan Treacy), Max Beauchamp (from Chris Koltzan), Daniel NaglieriMax Beauchamp (from Daniel Naglieri) and Stephen McAllister (from Liam Cooney) collectively brought it to a 10-10 tied game. 

The Seahawks just couldn't hold off the Hawks in the overtime period. With 1:55 down, Hawks' Riley Spellman elevated Roger Williams above Salve Regina for a 11-10 final. 

ON THE HORIZON: 

On Saturday, February 24, the men's lacrosse team will be on the road against SUNY Maritime in Throggs Neck, New York at 12 p.m.
