SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's lacrosse team defeated their sixth conference team of the season to remain perfect in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, taking down the Salve Regina University Seahawks 16-10 from Golden Bear Stadium on Tuesday night.

Records:

  • Western New England: 10-5, 6-0 CCC
  • Salve Regina: 6-6, 4-2 CCC

How it Happened:

The Seahawks got off to a quick lead just four minutes into the contest as Ryan Iritano netted the Salve's first goal of the night on an unassisted mark to give Salve Regina a 1-0 lead. It took Western New England over ten minutes to get on the board in the first quarter when Dylan Hanley scored the Golden Bears first goal of the game on an assisted mark, evening the score at one. Salve Regina would score their second of the night with just 17 seconds to play in the quarter when Brendan Laundry scored for the Seahawks to end the quarter 2-1 in favor of the visitors. Western New England put forth 17 shots whole Salve came away with just five. Carter Randall made three saves in the opening 15 minutes, while Connor Matthews made seven saves for SRU in the opening quarter.

Western New England would find their offensive game in the second quarter, scoring seven of the eight goals in the quarter. Conor Tracy would score the first two goals, picking up career points number 99 and 100 on WNE's third goal of the game. Noah Rust would pick up his first goal from Matt Greer at the 11:09 mark to give WNE a two-goal lead. Salve Regina would collect the next goal of the game as Laundry netted his second of the game to put the score at 4-3. Four straight goals in the final seven minutes of the quarter would pace WNE to an 8-3 lead after two quarters of play. Brian Madden, Conor Tracy, and Joseph Contino would all have goals while Matt Greer and Ben Kolb would pick up helpers for WNE. WNE outshot Salve 19-5 in the second quarter, collecting 36 first half shots.

Again, Western New England would score seven of the eight goals in the quarter as the Golden Bears began running away with the win. Dylan Hanley, Joseph Contino, Mike Bannon, Murohy Hartmann, and Dylan Hanley would all record goals for Western New England in the quarter, while Matt Greer, Bannon, Hanley, Tracy, and Rust would collect assists for the Golden Bears in the quarter.  WNE took another 19 shots in the quarter, as Salve could only come up with four in the quarter.

Salve Regina would attempt to make a comeback as they would credit six of the seven fourth quarter goals, though it would be a little too late for the Seahawks to mount a full comeback as Nicholas Campagnone would come away with the lone WNE tally in the quarter, before Salve Regina would rip off five goals to close the game. Western New England would come away with the 16-10 win over Salve Regina, remaining perfect in CCC play, as 6-0.

Pat Leary, Brendan Treacy, Brendan Laundry, and Liam Cooney each scored twice to help lead the Seahawks attack.
