SEAHAWK MEN'S LACROSSE RESULTS

Wentworth 6, Salve Regina 5
Middletown, R.I. – Gaudet Field
Saturday, March 25, 2017

Summary
The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team overcame a three goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but fell 6-5 in the extra period to Wentworth in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match of the season for either squad.

Series and Streaks
This was the 21st meeting between the two teams. The Seahawks still own a 11-10 advantage in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Wentworth sophomore Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) - scored the game-winner in overtime, and had an assist as well.
2 – Wentworth junior Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) - stopped 17 shots to earn the win for the Leopards and improve to 5-2 in net.
3 – Salve Regina senior Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) - scored a goal and had an assist.

Turning Point
After falling behind 5-2 in the fourth quarter the Seahawks battled back to tie the game when Ethan Robson (Lincoln, R.I.) had a pass ricochet off a defender and into the net. The Seahawks then began overtime with a man-up but could not convert, giving the ball back to Wentworth. The Leopards worked the ball around the perimeter, eventually freeing up Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.) on a drive to the net. He had the ball poked away from behind, but it popped right to Jason Buck, who quickly flung it towards the net and in to give the Leopards the overtime victory.

Quick Hits

  • This was the second straight year the teams had to play overtime to decide a victor. Last year it was LoCicero who scored for the Seahawks in overtime for a Salve Regina road victory in Boston.
  • The teams were nearly even in every category. Wentworth held a 13-12 groundball advantage and a 35-34 shot advantage while the Seahawks led 11-4 in face-offs won and went 1-5 with the man-up while the Leopards were 0-7 with the man advantage. Both teams turned the ball over 18 times.
  • Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) stopped 11 shots in the loss for the Seahawks to fall to 4-4 between the pipes.
