Seahawks land 38 on two-season academic team

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 38 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2013-14 Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced Wednesday, June 4 by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. This is the second time the honor has been separated into two seasons - fall and winter/spring. In total, 385 student-athletes representing all 10 member institutions were selected for the Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team.

Of the honorees, 76 were either first team, second team, or honorable mention All-CCC selections in their sport these past two seasons.

Also noteworthy is that he Athlete(s) of the Year and/or the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in seven of the eight CCC winter and spring sports received Academic Al-Conference laurels, including baseball Pitcher of the Year, JJ Branch (Endicott), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Sean Boyle (Roger Wiliams), men's basketball Player and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ryan Sheehan (Nichols), and Defensive Player of the Year, Hans Miersma (Gordon), women's basketball Player of the Year, Kaitlyn Bove (Roger Wiliams), Defensive Player of the Year, Lauren Hayden (University of New England), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kendra Kerr (Wentworth), men's golf Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Andy Emery (University of New England), men's lacrosse Short-Stick Specialist of the Year, Peter Erickson (Endicott), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jese DeLuca (Western New England), women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, Callie Murphy (Endicott), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Casidy Ruocco (University of New England), and softball Player of the Year, Amanda Vaudreuil (University of New England), Pitcher of the Year, Nell O'Conor (Endicott), and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ali Stanley (University of New England).
