Trio of Seahawks earn weekly honors

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Salve Regina men's lacrosse team picked up two Commonwealth Coast Conference wins this past week and swept the CCC weekly awards as senior Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) and freshmen Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Andrew Watkins (Natick, Mass.) all earned a weekly honor from the league.

Hollenshade brought home his first weekly honor of the season as he was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week for his nine-point week on three goals and six assists. Hollenshade started the week with a seven-point performance (2 G, 5A) in a 16-5 road win over Curry. In Salve Regina's 8-7 overtime win over UNE; Hollenshade scored the game-winning goal with 3:19 left in the extra frame. The senior also earned an assist in the second quarter to make the game 3-3. The attack picked up two ground balls and caused one turnover on the week as well.

LoCicero earned his second CCC Rookie of the Week honor for his 11 points (3g, 8a) this past week. LoCicero broke Salve Regina's single-season assist record this past week with his first of five against Curry. In the Seahawks 16-5 win over the Colonels, the freshman handed out five assists and chipped in three goals to lead the team. The attacker then dished out three assists in Salve Regina's 8-7 overtime win over UNE. On the year, the freshman now has 34 assists to lead the team and conference.

Watkins also earned his second honor this season with the Defensive Player of the Week nod. Watkins recorded 12 saves in a 16-5 road win over Curry. The rookie went on to make a season-high 19 saves in the Seahawks 8-7 overtime victory against University of New England. Watkins finished the week with a 5.65 goals against average and 31 saves.

Salve Regina is now 9-1 on the year and 2-1 in the CCC. In the most recent New England Intercollegaite Lacrosse Association poll, the Seahawks have moved out of the receiving votes category and is ranked 10th in DIII. Also ranked in this weeks poll are CCC rivals Endicott (3rd) and Roger Williams (receiving votes).

Salve Regina will take its 9-1 record on the road on Wednesday when the Seahawks travel to in-state rival Roger Williams. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
