MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Salve Regina men's lacrosse team continues to give back to the community as the Seahawks hosted their fourth annual free boys lacrosse kickoff clinic this past Sunday, March 23, at Gaudet Field.

The 7-1 Seahawks hosted two boys clinics for local grammar school age boys.  Most of the 140 participants were in grades 1 through 7 and were grateful and excited to be engaged by the student-athletes.

"I am so proud of this team.  They continue to amaze me as student-athletes and as a team.  To see our men engage these young boys who have such a pure love for the team and specifically lacrosse is so powerful and cuts to the core of why we give back," remarked head coach Patrick Cooney.

From 9:00am to 10:40am, 70 players from Island Youth Lacrosse (IYL) coming from Middletown and Newport participated in the annual clinic organized and run by the Seahawks. After the national anthem, the Salve Regina student-athletes ran various stations including stretching and agilities, stick skill sets, one vs. one play, shooting, line drills, all culminating with full field team competitions.

After a short break, the Seahawks welcomed another 70 young athletes from Portsmouth Youth Lacrosse (PYL).  From 11:00 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.  the Patriots players participated in the same various stations including stretching and agilities, stick skill sets, one vs. one play, shooting, line drills, all culminating with full field team competitions.  Senior captain Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.) lectured both groups on the faceoff, while classmate and fellow captain Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) lectured both groups on having a quality pocket/stick.

The Seahawks will take their 7-1 record on the road on Wednesday as they travel to Milton, Mass. to face Curry at 4 p.m.
