NEWPORT, R.I. - The 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse preseason poll was released this week, announcing the prediction of a fifth-place finish for Salve Regina University.

The Seahawks completed the 2011 season with a 9-8 overall record, including a 6-4 mark during CCC play. They finished in a tie for fifth place in the conference, but were just one win away from finishing as high as third place.

The Seahawks enter the 2012 season led by 2010 CCC Offensive Player of the Year and 2011 All-CCC Second Team attackman Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.). Walker enters his senior season already holding the program's career marks for points (188), goals (137), and assists (66).

Also included on the team's list of top returners are sophomores Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) and Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.). Hollenshade, the 2011 CCC Rookie of the Year, compiled 39 goals, 14 assists, and 18 ground balls during his rookie campaign as one of the team's top attackmen. McKeon returns after leading the team with 108 ground balls last season, while also serving as the team's primary face-off specialist.

The Seahawks will begin the season with four non-conference matchups, hosting Salem State during their season-opener on March 3 at 1 p.m. The team will also host their conference-opener on March 17, facing-off against Endicott at 2:30 p.m. All of the men's lacrosse home games will be played at Gaudet Field in Middletown, R.I.
