Carroll, Pimental lead Seahawks past MIT, 10-6

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Junior Brendan Carroll (Garden City, N.Y.) scored a pair of third-period goals and senior Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) made17 saves to help the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team to a 10-6 win over MIT in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at a windy Gaudet Field.

Junior Chris Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) added three goals and an assist for the Seahawks, who won their second-straight to even their mark at 2-2 on the season. Senior Nick Sisler (Waterbury Center, Vt.) and freshman Will Waste (San Francisco, Calif.) each scored a pair of goals for the Engineers (0-2).

The Seahawks scored the first three goals and five of six in the third quarter to turn a 3-3 halftime score into an 8-4 lead. Senior Maurie Fitzgerald (Lexington, Mass.) broke the tie with an end-to-end rush that resulted in his first of the season at 10:29. Carroll followed with goals at 9:08 and 8:02 to push the lead to 6-3.

After freshman Morgan Krey (Lake Forest, Ill.) scored his first collegiate goal for MIT to stop the run and make it a 6-4 game, freshman Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) and junior Brendan Rooney (West Newton, Mass.) scored for SRU to push the lead to 8-4. Salve Regina held that four-goal lead until Walker racked up his team-leading 14th and 15th markers of the season nine seconds apart with less than five minutes in the fourth remaining to stretch the Seahawks lead to 10-4. Goals by Sisler and Waste closed out the scoring.

"I thought this was a good win against a good MIT team," said Seahawks head coach Pat Cooney. "I thought Brett played outstanding. He made some very good saves. He really progressed as the game went along. Brett's progressed with each game we've played."

Salve Regina outshot the Engineers 36-32 and went 1-for-2 with the man advantage. MIT - which held a 47-46 edge in ground balls - finished the game 1-for-4 with the extra attacker. Sophomore Christopher Rullan (Wexford, Pa.) got the start in goal for MIT and finished with 10 saves, and junior Dan Piemont (Summit, N.J.) handed out a game-high three assists.

The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Salem State for a 1 p.m. contest. The Engineers host Husson on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
