MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Three unanswered goals to open the second period helped visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology earn a 3-3 draw and eventual shootout victory over the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday evening.

THREE STARS:

  1. Wentworth junior Will Olvier made 38 saves in his first action of the season.
  2. Salve Regina senior Mitch Walinski scored and had an assist.
  3. Wentworth freshman Travis Marchant netted his first career goal in the second period.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Salve Regina led 2-0 after one period, then the Leopards scored three straight in the first seven minutes of the second, capped by Marchant's powerplay goal at 6:55 to give the visitors the lead.
  • Damon Zimmer tipped home a pass from Seth Benson late in the second to even the score 3-3.
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the third or overtime.
  • Jacob Shankar scored in the second round of the shootout and Oliver stood tall in the third to give the Leopards extra points in the CCC standings.

Salve Regina travels to the University of New England on Friday, November 18, for another CCC matchup at 7 p.m.
