PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Freshman defenseman J.J. Layton (Peabody, Mass.) scored forty seconds into overtime to give the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team a thrilling 4-3 victory over visiting Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday night.

Thirty seconds into overtime it appeared that Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) had scored a putback goal to end the game. as the Seahawks began to celebrate the officials jumped in and waved the goal off, saying that Boutoussov had been in the crease and interferred with the Golden Bears' netminder. Such a call could be deflating for a team, but the Seahawks won the ensuing draw and immediately J.J. Layton sniped home a long distance shot to leave no doubt about a Seahawks overtime victory.
