Summary
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Freshman defenseman J.J. Layton (Peabody, Mass.) scored forty seconds into overtime to give the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team a thrilling 4-3 victory over visiting Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday night.

Turning Point
Thirty seconds into overtime it appeared that Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) had scored a putback goal to end the game. as the Seahawks began to celebrate the officials jumped in and waved the goal off, saying that Boutoussov had been in the crease and interferred with the Golden Bears' netminder. Such a call could be deflating for a team, but the Seahawks won the ensuing draw and immediately J.J. Layton sniped home a long distance shot to leave no doubt about a Seahawks overtime victory.

  • Salve Regina had led 2-0 in the game tanks to Danny Eruzione's (Winhtrop, Mass.) sixth goal in his last four games and Colin Claptons powerplay goal 1:21 into the second period.

  • The Seahawks went 1-for-4 on the powerplay while the Golden Bears went 1-for-5.
  • The win moves Salve Regina into a tie for first place in the CCC with Nichols.
