Seahawks top Hawks 4-2

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Becker College men's ice hockey team lost 4-2 to visiting Salve Regina University on Saturday night at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

The Seahawks of Salve Regina (7-3-2, 6-1-2 CCC) got on the board first, scoring just 1:49 into the first period when senior forward Adam Augusta Forward (Windham, N.H. / Cushing Academy) scored off his own rebound, assisted by freshman forward Danny Philbrick (Rye, N.H. / Brooks School).

The Hawks of Becker (4-9-1, 2-7-0 CCC) tied it up at the 5:26 mark, as senior forward MacGregor Howey (Grosse Ile, Mich. / New Jersey Titans) took a shot from the left wing and found the back of the net, assisted by senior defender Nikolas` Nasby (Newberg, Ore. / Billings Bulls) and junior forward Stephen Wolf (Somersworth, N.H. / New Hampshire Monarchs).

In the second period, Salve Regina capitalized off a power play and scored 6:09 in as junior forward Kyle Moore (Cumming, Ga. / Brooks School) redirected a slap shot, assisted by Augusta and freshman defender Edward Hirka (Vienna, Va. / Johnstown Tomahawks (NAHL)). Two minutes later, the Seahawks scored a short-handed goal on a put-back off a breakaway, as junior forward Shaun Patry (Penfield, N.Y. / Rochester Americans (USPHL)) finished assisted by Hirka and senior forward Pat Thompson (Hellertown, Pa. / Philadelphia Junior Flyers (USPHL)). The visitors entered the third period leading 3-1.

The Hawks pulled to within one 6:57 into the final period, as junior forward Corey Schafer (Johnstown, Pa. / Missoula Maulers) scored his fifth goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Brandon Morgan (Rochester, N.Y. / Syracuse Stars) and sophomore forward Alex Kielczewski (Grand Prairie, Texas / Portland Jr. Pirates).

Still trailing 3-2, Becker pulled their goalie late in the game. Salve Regina capitalized with an empty netter, as junior defender Kevin Clare (Chicago, Ill. / Rio Grande (NAHL)) found the net, assisted by Thompson.

Becker sophomore goalie Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif. / Tri City Ice Hawks) finished with 31 saves in net while Salve Regina junior goalie Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich. / N.Y. Apple Core (EHL)) recorded 47 stops. The Seahawks outshot the Hawks, 51-33.

Becker and Salve Regina will play again tomorrow as the Seahawks host the Hawks in a 2:35 p.m. game.
