Seahawks land five on CCC All-Conference team

NEWPORT, R.I - Five members of the Salve Regina University men's hockey team have been named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Conference team. Jack Billings (Oak Lawn, Ill.)Nick Cyr (Mount Laurel, N.J.)Nick Owen (Methuen, Mass.)Pat Thompson (Hellertown, Pa.), and Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) all make their first appearances on an All-Conference squad.

Cyr was named a first team defenseman while Wojtala took home second team goaltending honors. Billings, Thompson, and Owen all were named to the third team.

Cyr, a sophomore defenseman, scored three goals, handed out 12 assists, and was a +24 on the season. His plus/minus numbers ranked second in the CCC among all players and he ranks fourth in points per game for defenseman.

Wojtala, a sophomore goalie, registered 757 saves for a .933 save percentage and a 2.29 goals against average in 24 games. He ranked second in the CCC for saves and save percentage and 12th in the nation for save percentage.

Billings, a standout freshman, totaled six goals and 22 assists in 20 games. Billings ranked third in the CCC for assists and fourth in the nation for points per game as a freshman (1.40).

Thompson, a junior captain, once again led the Seahawks in goal scoring with 13 goals. He also dished out six assists. Thompson had the teams only hat-trick, a team-high four powerplay goals, and three game-winning goals. 

Owen, a senior captain, ranked second in the CCC for assists as a defenseman with 14. He was a +14 on the ice this season.

"I think it's great that some of our guys got recognized for what they did this season," said head coach Andy Boschetto. "Some of our guys had solid years, they're happy, but they're interested in getting the big one at the end of the year and that's what we're focused on".

The Seahawks open the CCC Playoffs this weekend when they host Johnson & Wales in a quarterfinal match at 4 p.m.
