BOSTON – Suffolk men's basketball fell to Salve Regina, 82-71, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 71 | Salve Regina 82
RECORDS: Suffolk (12-6, 7-5 CCC) | Salve Regina (16-5, 11-3 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself in a 12-4 hole early on that forced the Rams to play catch up. The blue-and-gold hung in the balance and flirted with a comeback until the right time to make a move.

That time was sparked when Cole LeVangie poured in a triple with just under nine minutes left in the first frame. The freshman's hoop from 3-point land ignited six straight Suffolk points over the next minute and half. That stretch flipped the lead in the blue-and-gold's favor, 26-25, which forced the Seahawks into a timeout.

Out of the huddle, the leader would change three more times and lock twice, with the second coming at 33-all at the 5:46 minute mark when Levangie converted a traditional three-point. From there, the Seahawks managed to couple a pair of hoops together and the teams traded points the rest of the opening half, which sent Suffolk into the locker room down, 40-38.

See-saw action to start the second stanza allowed Suffolk to remain in the hunt, 49-46, however Salve Regina had other things in mind out of a Rams' timeout and restored a multi-possession cushion. That same story was rewritten throughout the remainder of the second half as the visitors stymied every comeback attempt the blue-and-gold made to take the 82-71 decision.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk shot 47.5 percent (29-61) on the afternoon, 33.3 percent from 3-point range and 66.7 percent (4-fot-6) from the charity stripe.
  • The Seahawks outrebounded the Rams, 33-26.
