NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Salve Regina University men's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a triumph over Connecticut College by a score of 80-65 on Tuesday night.

Salve Regina (4-2) took the lead five minutes into the game and did not look back, leading the Camels for the remainder of the contest. A large lead in rebounds set the visitors up with seven more field goal attempts than the Camels throughout the first half of play and allowed them to jump out to an early 13-point lead. The Seahawks were fueled by 13 first-half points by Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) and 10 from Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.), as they entered halftime ahead of the Camels by a score of 35-22.

The second half was much improved for Connecticut College, which continuously attempted to close the gap with the help of 12 forced turnovers. Unfortunately for the Camels, any hint at a change in momentum was greeted with a made three-pointer by the Seahawks, who shot 7-of-13 from behind the arc in the second half. While the Camels were able to temporarily close the gap multiple times, Salve Regina remained on top throughout the second half and proved victorious by a 15-point margin at the final whistle.

Freshman Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) led the way for the Camels with a game-high 23 points along with three steals, while sophomore Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) also contributed 15 points of his own to go with five rebounds. For Salve Regina, Kelly led the team in scoring with 22 points in addition to totaling seven rebounds and six assists.

The Seahawks held the edge in rebounds by a margin of 44-33 and led the Camels in assists as well by a total of 13-5. The Camels managed to force 18 Seahawks turnovers compared to their own 10, mostly due to an impressive 11 steals, the majority of which came in the second half of the contest.

Both teams shot just over 40 percent from the field. Salve Regina was 39.1 percent from 3-point range, while Connecticut College only managed to connect on 15 percent of its shots from behind the arc.

Salve Regina (4-2) has won four straight and next plays a week from Wednesday (December 1) when it opens the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate hosting the Bison of Nichols College. Connecticut College (1-2) will next travel to Willimantic, Conn. on Sunday, November 28th to take on Eastern Connecticut State University at 5 p.m.
