SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Senior Kevin Mannix and junior Andrew Bronstein are serving as captains for head coach Sean Foster in his 17th season.
  • Freshman Mikey Spencer has been selected as the league's Rookie of the Week five times.
  • Salve Regina won three of its first four games in 2019, but the Seahawks have lost their last four straight.
  • In Bristol on Tuesday, the Seahawks went without a 3-pointer made (0-for-9) for the first time all season.
  • By contrast, Seahawks allowed an opponent to make double-digit 3-pointers for the ninth time; Roger Williams went 12-for-30 from long distance in its 83-64 win.
  • Jonathan Friberg has season-highs in minutes (32) and points (20) against the Hawks.
  • Friberg and Cameron Collins (twice) are the only Seahawks with double-doubles in 2018-19.
  • Four Seahawks are now averaging double-figure scoring - Spencer (18.1 ppg), Kevin Kelly (12.5), Collins (12.2), and Friberg (10.6).
  • Collins (5.2 rpg) and Friberg (5.1 rpg) top the Seahawks in rebounding.

BISON BITS

  • Nichols has had the same five starters - Marcos Echevarria, DeAnte Bruton, Matt Morrow, Jerome Cunningham, Nate Tenaglia - for all 19 games with one exception; Bryce Boggs started for Tenaglia in a home loss to Gordon College (Jan. 5).
  • Boggs played at Salve Regina his first two collegiate seasons (2014-16) and was the CCC Rookie of the Year (2015) before transferring to Bridgewater (Va.) College.
  • Nichols has scored over 100 points three times this season including its last meeting with Salve Regina (Nov. 28).
  • Three Bison are averaging double-figure scoring - Echevarria (20.5 ppg), Bruton (18.8), and Morrow (12.6).
  • Morrow averages a double-double on the season with a league second-best 10.4 rebounds per game.
  • Nichols has a league-best six-game win streak; the Bison won their first 10 games of the season before falling to No. 22 Salisbury in the Springfield Naismith Classic (Dec. 30).
  • Marcos Echevarria, the reigning two-time CCC Player of the Year, netted a game-high 26 points in Nichols' 76-69 win over Endicott on Tuesday.

Nichols leads the all-time series, 28-25, and has won the last dozen meetings consecutively. In 53 previous meetings, Salve Regina has a 10-point lead, 3974-3964, in total scoring in the series. The Bison have swept the season series each year since 2014-15 including a neutral meeting in Babson College tip-off tournament. The Seahawks have the edge in Newport (16-11) when the Bison visit, but Nichols has won its last four trips for an 8-9 mark on the Rodgers Recreation Center hardwood since 2002.

Saturday's game will be "Streich Two" (pronounced Strike Two), the second meeting for assistant coaches from the same family. Mark Streich is in his first season with the Seahawks, while his son, Matt, is on the sideline for the Bison.
