Seahawks defeated by Bison

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Senior Matt Langadas (Sebago, Maine) poured in a game-high 27 points and junior Irving Eggleston (East Lyme, Conn.) contributed 25 points and six rebounds as Nichols College defeated Salve Regina University, 99-63, in the Babson Invitational Tournament consolation game on Sunday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, Nichols is now 1-1 on the year, while Salve Regina drops to 0-2.

Sophomore Marlon Bennett (Stratford, Conn.) contributed 18 points, and sophomore Taylor Sarette (Keene, N.H.) and junior Christian Horton (Rutland, Mass.) each scored 10 for the Bison.

First-year Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) notched 14 points to lead Seahawks. Graduate student Isiah Pringle (Queens, N.Y.) contributed with 10, while sophomores Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) and Tommy Keyes (Berkley, Mass.) scored seven and six, respectively.

Nichols broke the game open early, outscoring Salve Regina 22-2 over the first 8:27. Langadas buried a trio of three pointers during the spurt and Eggleston added six points of his own. The Seahawks closed within 27-15 on a three pointer by senior Eric MacKinnon (South Easton, Mass.), but four straight free throws by Horton sparked a 21-8 run to close the first half as the Bison took a 48-23 lead into the locker room.

Langadas and Eggleston scored 10 straight points to open the second half for Nichols, which took its biggest lead of the night at 81-31 with 7:48 remaining. The Bison drilled 18 three-pointers on the night, including 11 after halftime.

Nichols held the Seahawks to just 31.1 percent (19-for-61) from the floor on the night, and held a 47-44 edge on the glass. The Bison also scored 24 points off 19 Salve Regina turnovers.

The Seahawks held a 22-14 edge in points the paint.

Nichols returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Eastern Connecticut State at 7 p.m., while Salve Regina will host Wheaton in its home opener on Thursday at 7 p.m.
