PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Izzy Ward scored her second goal of the season in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 3-0 shutout of Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Jillian Miele and sophomore Darian Shepherd also scored for the Wildcats (2-0), who outshot the Seahawks 31-10 and held a 15-6 edge in penalty corners. The win marked the second-consecutive triumph for JWU over their in-state rivals and evened the Seahawks record at 1-1 thus far in 2022.

Shepherd staked JWU to a 1-0 lead in the third when she knocked her own rebound past the Salve Regina goalkeeper. Less than 12 minutes later, senior Margaret Johnson's shot from the right side snuck through the pads of the goalkeeper before Ward knocked it into the net to double the Wildcats' lead.

In the fourth, Miele tucked her penalty stroke inside the right post to push the JWU lead to 3-0. Senior Madison Flaxington stopped six shots for her second win of 2022 while sophomore Madison Young picked up a defensive save in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Salve Regina senior Casey Febus (Souderton, Pa.) turned away 10 Wildcat shots while Shannon Kennedy (Royersford, Pa.) took four shots to lead the Seahawks.
