Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - After falling behind 2-0 in the fourth quarter the Salve Regina University field hockey team rallied to score three straight goals, including an overtime game-winner from senior Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.) in a 3-2 comeback victory over visiting Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks own a 14-3 record in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina senior Eliza Timms scored her 17th and 18th goals of the season. The first in the 52nd minute to put the Seahawks on the board, the second in the 64th to deliver the win.
  2. Salve Regina junior Casey Febus (Soundertown, Pa.) saw 31 shots, 11 on goal, and made nine saves to improve to 2-0 in net this season.
  3. Roger Williams junior Morgan Foley (Hanover, Mass.) scored both Hawks goals.

Turning Point
Salve Regina had been thoroughly outshot and out possessed for most of the game, but thanks to Febus and the defense, had kept it a one score game deep into the second half. Foley scored her second for the Hawks in the 50th minute and it felt like the game was out of reach for the Seahawks. However less than two minutes later Timms scored her first to put the Seahawks on the board and right back into the game. Six minutes later Hannah Bedrosian (Seekonk, Mass.) fired in a rebound off a corner chance and the game was tied.

In overtime the Seahawks defense had to withstand the 14th corner of the game from the Hawks before getting their chance. The Seahawks defense blocked the Hawks shot attempt then made their way down field and earned a corner. Eliza Timms inserted the corner then crashed to goal, grabbed a deflected shot and fired it home to give the Seahawks the dramatic come-from-behind win.

Quick Hits

  • Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) made two saves in the loss and falls to 8-7 in net for the Hawks.
  • Roger Williams held a 31-8 advantage in shots, 11-5 in shots on goal.
  • Roger Williams had a 14-4 edge in corners.
  • Eliza Timms continues to lead the CCC in goals (18) and points (41).

Quotables
"Our slogan for this season has been 'Grit', and I think that really showed today. Coming back from a 2-0 deficit, staying with it mentally and physically, I'm really proud of the girls. The defense kept us in it, and we got that push offensively when we needed it. It was a great team effort and exciting to have them get that big win and that confidence boost. Also, today was a special game for our team because we were raising awareness and money for esophageal cancer research. Hannah Filiault, one of our former players recently had her father pass away from the disease. It was a pretty unanimous decision from our team what cause we wanted to promote this year. Hannah was a huge part of our success in her time here, and her father was a tremendous supporter of our program. She was here today, it was great being able to do something for her and her family, and give them an exciting game." - head coach Jennifer Foster
