Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Junior forward Tori Bickel (Harleysville, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal for the Salve Regina University field hockey team in a 3-2 victory over Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday night and a rainy and windswept Gaudet Field.

Series and Streaks
Gordon is 23-13-0 all-time versus Salve Regina however the Seahawks have now won nine of the last ten meetings.

  1. Salve Regina junior Tori Bickel assisted on the Seahawks second goal of the first quarter then scored her own to open the second half and break a 2-2 tie.
  2. Salve Regina senior Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) opened the games scoring in the fifth minute with her 21st goal of the season, tying her for the team lead.
  3. Gordon senior Mackenzie Gray (Craver, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season, tipping in a shot in the 26th to tie the game 2-2 after the Scots trailed 2-0.

Turning Point
The Seahawks led 2-0 in the first quarter thanks to goals from Ashley Cody and Olivia St. Jean (Goffstown, N.H.). Kieran Thompson (Berwyn, Pa.) scored for the Scots in the 13th on their first shot on goal, then Gray scored later in the first half to even the score 2-2. Bickel quickly gave the Seahawks back the lead, battling down low to jam a shot into the back of the net in the 32nd. The Seahawks dominated the game from a possessions and shots standpoint, but could not add to their lead allowing the Scots to hang around. The Scots only had one shot in the fourth quarter and it came in the games waning seconds, a breakaway chance for Kieran Thompson, which Casey Febus (Soudertown, Pa.) was able to save, preserving the 3-2 final.
